Satan’s Casual Demise is a study of a "rattlesnake derby", also called "a roundup" that takes place primarily in the southwest U.S. in the Spring. Rattlesnakes are gathered from surrounding landscapes (and more distant locals) and brought to a central point/town, where they are harassed, slaughtered, skinned and cooked-up to entertain a certain type of onlooker. It is bloody, primitive and extreme, but I’m primarily interested in the peripherals and accouterments that comment on the casual acceptance of violence towards a species vilified primarily by religion/folklore.
