My sister had a baby in early 2017, and I have admiringly watched her learn to be a mother over the last 12 months. One thing that struck me in particular was the amount of physical contact, seemingly constant, that she and her son have shared. It's an intimacy that is unique to new babies, I think--the holding, supporting, nursing, caressing, kissing, snuggling. As my nephew grows, his need for this contact is lessening: he now has the strength in his neck to support his head; he can sit up on his own; and soon he will be walking. I've tried here to capture the intimate bond of this new pair by documenting their touch, those moments when skin meets skin, mother and child still as one.
