I love the challenge of taking portraits of strangers in public places. If I meet and connect with someone with an interesting look I try to distill the essence of our connection in the split second of the shutter release. I find you can create a connection with a stranger in a surprisingly short time. Sometimes I have as little as 1 minute to meet and photograph someone, but I believe you will see the authentic connection and understanding about my motives in their eyes. Looking back at the successful captures fills me with a lot of joy. I have recently gone back to film for my street and portraiture photography. I fell in love with an old Rolleiflex camera which causes me to take extra care in composition and exposure and the negatives are ultra-high resolution, which gives me a lot of satisfaction. I also shoot with a Canon AE1 Program and 50mm lens. I shoot both colour and B&W depending on the light and the location.
