Mysterious and poetic or direct and confrontational are ingredients for my portraits and photography.
Photography is for me surprise and wonder. I often think first in my head what I want to do, and if it does comes together in a photo, it’s fantastic. I imagine, I make contact, I process and lo and behold it’s what I wanted it to be. That mechanism comes together in my contact with people and with their
own environment. I use my camera as an interview tool, searching for the inner personality of the people I portray. My approach is often simple. I use few resources. I look for facial expressions and body posture that reflects best the encounter interaction for me. As a photographer, I look at the context in which I want to make the portrait, a context that will strengthen the shot. I’m looking at what emotions I can reflect. Quite often, the shot is not about the person in front of the lens but rather who I am as a photographer.
