"Danzaq" Is the name of one of the dance in the festivity of "La Virgen del Carmen" in Paucartambo - Cusco, Perú. Every year the village celebrates a religious festivity to honor the virgin, which many dancers from many parts of the country come to visit and pray for a miracle.

"Danzaq" is just one from 19 groups of dance it means the one who flirts with girls, the terror of the teens, cause is it used to scape with some girl after the ceremony,

This dance like every dance in this festivity has a leader, who will guide all the "cuadrilla" (team of 40 dancers) for 5 days they will dance almost 12 hours per day and go all around the village doing a choreography in honor to the virgin.

Each "danza" have their own band who will follow everywhere they go. Visiting their ancestors in the cementary , bringing them food, music and dance.

There are 5 days that they will spend and share together, like a family. To be part of the dance you have to be related to a paucartambino, or you have to be born in the village, many people wait years to be part of the dance and honor the virgin.

During the festivity, many things are happenig at the same time everywhere.  Sometimes it difficult to walk, there are fireworks everywhere, music, lots of people and many dancers around with their costumes doing performances making you part of the ritual.

as the leader you have to mantain the order and organized each day since 5am the cuadrilla to be on time in each event, they are allow to punish any dancer that is not behaving well, they usually whip them.

"Caporal meaning for Leader" Has already been in this dance for 24 years in a row. He knows most of his cuadrilla since they were little kids, they are like a big family and respect and love his leader.

I had the honor to meet them especially the Caporal who introduce me to his cuadrilla and took me to watch every ritual from inside, I was with them everyday for 5 days.

"Julio Yawar Caporal"   I'm very pleased to have met this man and his dancers, they have deep beliefs and feelings for the Virgin. You have to be in this little village and live all this especial moments to understand very well what they feel and why they do all this ritual.
