Life in Quarries

Quarries are open pit mines used to extract building materials. There are few quarries in Bangladesh at Sylhet region where stones are extracted. It is an expanding business with huge economic profits. As labor costs and land values are quite cheap, new pits are being excavated in a great number. The method & equipments use for excavation are very primitive. The laborers dig without any proper instruction which leads to accidents. The sites are not planned by any engineers & also there is no site engineer to monitor the work. The livelihood of the people working there is miserable. Their wage is not even well enough to feed two people & they can hardly live a proper life. As the pit mines are located in the remote areas of India-Bangladesh border, most outside people are not even aware of the existence of such place. All the photos are taken in 2014.
