Project “Statues” is about people who are in certain relationships with each other and often become in a way similar. That similarity takes place on many levels, such as behavior, lifestyle, but also as basic as appearance and outfit. The series of photos which I present is a result of such thinking.
These photographs show people I met accidentally shaped into sculpture-like objects in the photo studio. I used post-production to make the image simpler and more architectural. Characters that I’ve chosen remain in various sorts of relationships with each other, there is an elderly couple, a group of teenage friends, mother with her daughter, sisters. The merger of members of these micro groups, their mutual entangling, gives us the effect of an unexpected unity and closeness that comes from intimate relationships between the characters. It’s difficult to recognize individuals, they lose themselves in each other, creating a non-obvious, but also natural image. We can see an interesting blend of colors and designs of clothing, as well as certain parts of the body, especially hands, which were very important for me in this project.
Apart from the references to the contemporary art, the fashion influence are also visible. In these photographs all above areas are blurred, lost in themselves, creating dynamic and organic whole.
