Nature Morte

Nature Morte is an investigation of the materiality of the Porte-D’Aix neighbourhood in Marseille. The artists extract materials from the surroundings like textile shops, streets or waste and recompose them through a variety of techniques : painting, sculpting, cutting, breaking or covering. The (de)-constructive process draws on the desire to transcend pre-defined perceptions of the city. In a collaborative and improvised gesture the objects are merged together on a textile surface and photographed like portraits. The photographic temporality at work in the final images allows a contemplative and poetic interrogation wich opens on identity, memory and archeology. Ugo Petronin & Nicolas Nicolini
