Illusions of Reality' is a self financed exhibition of 30 images scheduled to be shown in Malta in April 2018. I have se1ected 20 images from the collection including a Photochrom intended to be larger, and a centrepiece image.
I'm often asked 'What do the images mean?', 'What is the reason behind it?' The majority of my images will have some sort of message that will generally only have significance to me. The collection has been driven by my fascination with all things mythical and strange, but could be suggested simply by a casual everyday phase, song title or news event. Occasionally there is a deeper Raison d'être, however, I would prefer to say that the viewer should be challenged and see if the images have any meaning for them!
Whilst titles are not always necessary, I do feel they are important in guiding the viewers thoughts part of the way to an understanding of the image as I saw it. Many of the images in this collection may at first appear to be unconnected however, when guided by the title and the viewers own instincts, it is not inconceivable that we may arrive at the same destination, although by different thought processes.
It is also acceptable to produce images that are just simply 'pleasing to the eye', however, there are no rules here, just conceptual art and the viewers infinite imagination. As the title of the collection suggests, none of the images could possibly be real, and are in fact illusions, however I choose to push the boundaries of my artistic creation in this way.
To quote T S Eliot - "Humankind cannot bear very much reality, that we cling to our illusions even if they contradict the obvious."
