Opened in 1924 as the Vicentina Aranha Sanatorium, it was one of the largest tuberculosis treatment centers in Latin America. He had his architectural project credited to Francisco de Paula Ramos de Azevedo, one of the most important architects in Brazil.
The sanatorium ceased its activities in the 60's, operating there until the 90's a geriatric hospital. It was abandoned for many years, until the São José dos Campos City Hall created a park preserving the architectural complex.
Vincentina de Queiroz Aranha, who named the sanatorium, was the wife of Senator Olavo Egidio. Raised funds for the construction of a model hospital for the treatment of tuberculosis. Vicentina died before the hospital opened.
