For me, India represents two of my favorite things: interesting people and good food. This series depicts the many faces of people I met in India, their smiles, their deep-looking eyes, and their hard-working way of life, in the context of markets, street-food stalls, restaurants, hotels, produce fields, and community kitchens. India es full of contrasts; and even among the greatest poverty, you see abundance, generosity, hospitality, and kindness. People are simply very nice, they open their homes and souls to you, and all of these Indian values and customs are completely irradiated into the food they masterfully cook, and the way they share it with their community. Delicious food is not only cheap (or sometimes even free), it is also bountiful, spicy, full of flavor, depth and warmth. In my series, I also try to portray the connection between the person and the ingredient or product they are interacting with. The farmer herding his cows, the bread cook with the pani puris and chapatis, the incredible skill of the women peeling and chopping onions and chillies, and their general love for boiling hot sweet chai tea.
