Last summer I received the news that I had to undergo brain surgery. This tapped a lot of emotions. I needed to channel these emotions by documenting my fear and insecurity before the surgery, followed by my pain and sense of shame afterwards. This serie is not only important to me because I am the subject, but mostly because it captures an atmosphere of honest emotions. Using make-up is a humorous wink to how we generally like to make things look better than they really are. The first portrait was taken a few day after I received the news about the surgery, the last one three weeks after the brain surgery. It is an ongoing project with an indefinite time limit.
