The faces and places in these photographs are the familiar sights and surroundings of the small rural village of Felton, Northumberland in the north of England, the place I have grown up in and started a family of my own.
A mothers embrace in bed with her newborn, the innocent yet inquisitive glance of a child whose comforted by her dad. A young woman who despite the bleak weather has been on her regular afternoon dog walk. The tense glance of the local gamekeeper whose eyes have caught many mischievous and criminal acts on the land he protects.
These images are a personal portrait of a village community who’s identity is going through change. The recent gentrification of the area and new housing developments has created both cultural and social change. These images are a selection from a wider body of work entitled living quarters (Please see website for full project). It is an attempt to capture the character and soul of a village that is on the edge of change and development.
