''We are Women of New York, we are Women of the World, celebrating our diversity through our common humanity''.
The series Women of New York was created in a city that prides itself on the fact that diverse cultures, genders, sexualities, and religious beliefs don’t merely exist here, but thrive. A combination of visual images and words, the series celebrates diversity by featuring the portraits of ten women who have come to New York from countries all over the world and flourished, even in the face of difficulty.
Like the layers of her paintings, Tremblay believes that as humans, we are made up of various strata that form our unique personalities. Our culture, essence, choices, and individual life experiences make us who we are. In using the lens of her camera, Tremblay visually captures the luminous spirit of each woman. Each of the photographs were merged with an image of the natural world and then painted over, symbolizing the many layers of our humanity.
Using a unique artistic process called Pintography, Tremblay challenges the boundaries between the artistic mediums of photography and painting.
