Safe Heaven is a project about Mexican migration to New York City. I have documented the lives of Mexican women inside their homes. They have crossed the border in search of the “American Dream” and everyday face bravely the realities of living in a context of illegality.
It is an interpretation of migration through the use of color as a statement of uniqueness and humanity. These images present Mexican immigrant women where they can be masters of their own world, where they can control their time and their choices, where they have a safe heaven.
I started this project in 2011 in New York until 2013 to follow it back in Mexico city where I have continued shooting issues related to identity, migration and home. This submission is a selection of portraits of this series.
