"xylella fastidiosa - the virus"

Current Project working title: ‘xylella fastidiosa’ Destructive bacterium destroying landscapes and woodland - Mallorca Destructive politicians destroying people and countries - United Kingdom (and other countries respectively) "Through methodological experimentation the abstractions and compositions are exposing bacteria as a deconstructive and destructive organism. Interpreted as a metaphor for global political systems, the compositions tread a line between the visible and invisible.” Abstraction and images can sometimes say and express more than words. "Xylella Fastidiosa" is currently destroying vast amounts of trees on the island of Mallorca and resulting in the mandatory deforestation of protected woodlands and destruction of landscapes. It once has been described as the Ebola of nature. I am also drawing a parallel to the destruction and deconstruction of countries and societies through politicians and certain political movements. A slow deterioration, which is creeping almost invisible like the "xylella fastidiosa", within society of people destroying its own structure; a crumbling society, like the crumbling stumps of the destroyed woodlands and landscapes fuelled by "the Other". "So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal."
