These images were all captured with my I-phone in the mornings while I simultaneously prepared my two young children for school. Taken during the onset of our first winter in a new home, the frost shadows of the Winter Blind series evoke Southern School Chinese landscape paintings with their beautiful and sometimes treacherous landscapes swallowing the humans and structures within. While initially calming and beautiful, the apparent scenes in my photographs can also underscore the thin veil of security a home provides from the harsh elements outside. As I mentally wander through these scenes I am reminded of my place in the world, my human vulnerability–and the need to better insulate my home.
