This body of work was inspired by my grandfather, Anatol Iwanowski, and his younger brother, Wiktor.
In the late summer of 1945 they braved an escape from a prisoner- of-war camp in Russia, and in extreme hardship covered over 2000 kilometres in search of their family and their homeland.
Between 2012 and 1013, I retraced their epic journey and documented it from the perspective of a fugitive - staying clear of people.
The journey took me from Kaluga (Russia), across Belarus, Lithuania, to Wroclaw (Poland), where my grandfather had found his family and lived to be 90.
His younger brother is still alive, and it was his written diary that made it possible for me to retrace their journey step by step.
