40 Something, With Cats

The series, 40 Something, With Cats, was born from a single statement made by a well meaning woman in a documentary. The implication made was that a single woman in her forties had reason to regret her situation, especially if she was a single woman in her forties who owned cats. Being such a woman, but having no regrets about my situation in life, I felt compelled to take a closer look at how I felt about myself at middle age and how I think society sees women like me. The clown is me. I feel like a clown in most everything I do, so the clown is me. The events taking place in each image are both real and imagined, past and present, comical and tragic. Creating these images has allowed me to take a look at myself and my life in a way I never thought possible. While the project isn't complete at this time, I only have a few more images to create before I put the clown suit away for good.
