Tokyo is, to me, a city of extreme contrasts. I have observed how ancestral traditions and nature coexist with ultramodern technologies. This project aims to portray the dialogue between these forces: the old and the new, the megalopolis and the feeling of isolation, and the organic forms of nature versus the sharp concrete structures constructed by humans. I have immersed myself in the train system, travelling from Tokyo to Kyoto in the slow-speed local trains, making 10 changes along the way. I find Japan inspiring to explore the possibilities of black and white photography. Currently, I am interested in composition, the tactile qualities of images, and how to create a poetic atmosphere within the urban landscape.
Exhibited at The British Library in London for the "Japan Now" event in 2017, celebrating modern cultures.
This project received a nomination at Kyotographie 2018 (Japan) for my solo exhibition at Matsuo Megumi Gallery in Kyoto.
