Las Ramblas are in many cities and towns of the Catalan coast the main street of the old city, they are born by substitution of the old wall erected on one of the banks of a short-distance river that rises in the nearby mountains and reaches the sea. They are unusually wide in an urban fabric of narrow streets and recesses and constitute the greatest social expression of the city and at the same time they are its authentic heart.
Ramblear is typically Mediterranean and Catalan, it is not found elsewhere and does not have its equivalent voice in English.
