You may think that what you see always corresponds to reality. Yet that does not always have to be. During the evolution of man, our brains have developed all kinds of systems that help our eyesight. You hardly notice anything of that, until you get to see something that is misinterpreted by those systems. Many optical illusions work like this: they fool your brain by providing information that causes a 'wrong' reaction in the brain. Other optical illusions show the peculiarities of our eyes and brains.
