A "mise en abyme" literally means "placed into abyss".
It is a formal artistic technique of placing a copy or a similar image within itself. In film, it refers to the technique of inserting a story within a story and can includes the idea of a "dream within a dream".
As a painter I have always felt my art was never fully complete. The large format of my circular paintings seemed to need more than just a white wall, so I started taking them out in nature to present them. I began taking photographies allowing both art forms to merge into surreal images, completing my art at last.
