The Bobover Hasidim are a sect of Jews originating from Southwestern Poland that, along with ninety percent of all Polish Jews, was almost completely decimated during World War II. They have re-established themselves in Brooklyn, NY. Photographing Bobover rituals and social relationships together with other aspects of daily life illustrates the way in which the community has tenaciously held on to its traditional life while, at the same time, adapting itself to American society in its own culturally selective way.
