The project that I whimsically call “ The Saltwater Series” is a very carefully crafted set of digital manipulations to transform photos into more visually compelling images. The title came about when I shared a series of the images on social media, with accompanying text that speculated what the results might be if you were taking photos at the seashore and accidentally dropped your cellphone into the water. Some viewers believed that to be a happy accident rather than a technique and the name stuck. In creating a mood, color is the most critical component in diverting the viewer’s attention to some elements and away from others. The palette is determined by the image and ranges from subtle and delicate to deeply intense. Additionally, some of the images have been given eccentric titles which has the unexpected benefit of inspiring some viewers to add their own short stories to accompany the image, often changing the narrative and making them co-creators.
