The Oceana series is a collection of surreal photography that captures the iconic art deco architecture of Miami Beach’s famous Ocean Drive. Sam Dobrow has memorialized rare images of the south beach district on nights when there was no vehicular traffic and transformed those images into a fantasy world that exists somewhere between south beach and a parallel universe. His starry skies, street cafes, and saturated colors are reminiscent of impressionist paintings by Vincent van Gogh. His melted buildings and transfigured people create the surrealism of a Salvador Dali painting.
All of Sam Dobrow’s images begin with a photograph which he develops into a vision unique to him and his artwork. All the works in the Oceana series are printed using archival inks on metallic paper and then face mounted to optical quality acrylic. This method of production maximizes the color, brightness and contrast of the images conveying a glow that honors the neon lights of the Art Deco district.
