To photograph an area consumed by drought and poverty, in the northeast of Brazil, called the Flagstones of Father Mathews in the Cariri, inthe district of Cabaceiras, Paraiba. I visited the place for the first time in June 2015, and the second time in November of the same year. The geological formation is believed to be 500 million years old. There you can see cave paintings and carvings believed to have been created by the Cariri natives who inhabited the region about 12.000 years ago.In both times I was captivted by the magic nature of the area and inhospitable land where the people nevertheless proudly survive in small populations in a hash environment., with little hope of change. I am planning my third visit to the area, as they just had some rain after 8 years of drought.
