Explorers of the age of discovery wrote accounts of their travelling, hardships, bravery and findings in their traveling journals. A lot of those have been published and romanticized and their adventures capture the imagination. Working in a tradition that has been mainly represented by men, Mary Wollstonecraft wrote letters during her travels and these letters have inspired me to compile my own findings and sentiments through photography as I traveled up North to work in a small village. The series is a journey through Northern Québec on Inuit lands in a region called Nunavik. In Chronicles of Shifting Ice, I’m discovering a far away land that most people won’t get to see. It is harsh, bleak but beautiful. It is remote, tight and isolated. The social climate is problematic, and the climate changes are affecting the way of life. All I can do is observe, discover and take it all in.
