I am resubmitting a series called Listening With My Eyes.
These were some of Magnum's words:
Your work is a breath of fresh air in a world of photographers who take the world around them deathly seriously and seem scared of incorporating any amount of humor into their work... it is instantly and appreciatively humorous, it goes beyond superficial punchlines or easy, one-dimensional visual tricks and instead completely reinvents the world in an imaginative, emotive, and poignant way. Street photographers often jump at happy coincidences and quirky collisions of worlds, but it is rare to find a photographer who manages to create such a distinctive personal voice as you have demonstrated in this portfolio.
My words:
Street photography can be more than shapes, shadows, movement, colours. It can be rich in ideas and humour as Elliot Erwitt has shown his whole career.
Life gives constantly and I consider my photos to be gifts, I just need to be seeing in a certain way. The seeing happens to me, I do not 'do' the seeing.
My photographs were reviewed in a magazine in China recently and I managed to get the text translated. The reviewer said: “Sometimes it needs you to just enjoy (his work), sometimes it requires your eyes to listen to the jokes it’s telling you.”
