These photos were shot on my Sony Nex-6 mirrorless camera in May of 2018. My younger brother Jr. and I surprised our dad with a birthday treat consisting of 1/2 ounce of marijuana, some beer, some carne asada to grill, and our company and undying love.
My biological father was absent for my entire life and my step dad (the gentleman in these photos) was absent for much of my life and my brother's. As a result I practically raised my younger brother and we held on to so much anger toward his dad/my step dad for many years. Oddly enough it was marijuana that bought us all together.
We have had many talks about the issues we faced growing up and Dad's choices during that time while smoking marijuana together. Today we are in a much different, much better place as humans and as members of the same immediate family. Dad has calmed down and now has another family but the love for us is there. I would have to argue that the catalyst for the strengthening of our relationship to one another has been our love and respect of marijuana. This photo set is intended to show a positive externality that arose from something that is usually stigmatized in the public arena.
