Pajarito Mesa is 18,000 acres of flat, wind-swept land just outside of Albuquerque, NM. Somewhere between 1,200 and 1,500 people live there without water, electricity or paved roads. Many people bought land there because it was cheap. Promises were often made that utilities and paved roads would arrive "soon" but the truth is that those things aren't coming anytime soon, if ever. In 2010, the county finally put in a central water station at the entrance which one advocate describes as being on the order of a third-world country.
