ANDREINO
Rome, April 2017 - September 2018
The first time I saw Andrea was at the sports centre “Il Faro”, my second home, home of the CCCP, where our favorite futsal teams play, from the younger teams up to the adults player of C1 category.
He was by the edge of the field, in his wheelchair covered in stickers and yelling at the top of his lungs, grasping the fence, encouraging our team, particularly Lele Bruno, his adored cousin, that from that day, without knowing it, changed Andrea’s life, and from that moment onwards he became “Andreino” for all of us.
Why, Andreino? perhaps because we all saw him so small, apparently helpless, tied to that wheelchair, to prevent him falling by the unconscious spastic movements given by the tetra paresis. But his yelling, the swollen veins on his neck, those fingers clenched on the net made you aware of much more, a force, a spirit, a full charge that in my eyes and of all those around him, almost made that wheelchair disappear.
Today, thinking back to that day, it reminds me of the song by De Gregori, The football player of '68 .... “The boy will be ...". Indeed today Andrea is 20 years old, extremely intelligent, extraordinarily determined with an amazing desire to live life; De Gregori says: " you will see a player by his courage, altruism and fantasy" and Andrea has all these attributes!
He’s futsal coach, basketball player, fond of tattoos and philosophy and always surrounded by many friends, male and female who love him, also because it is almost impossible not to. To confirm all this ask AS. Roma Coach Spalletti, who in 2007 was literally bewitched by Andrea's smile, his spontaneity and above all his energy. He nicknamed him, il principino (the little prince), because in the sport center Trigoria, everyone opened the doors wide open as he passed by. Yes, absolutely that "ino” (little), a sort of barrier, a shield, which Andrea no longer needs.
The daily battles that life has reserved for him are no obstacle, it’s a training ground, like at school, where he fights to follow a "normal" course of study, which allows him to finish earlier and then attend university, because Andrea knows the road he wants to follow and is looking to the future.

La prima volta che ho visto Andrea è stato al circolo “Il Faro”, la mia seconda casa, la casa dei CCCP, dove giocano le nostre squadre di calcio a 5, dai piccoli amici alla C1.
Lui era a bordo campo, sulla sua carrozzina piena di adesivi e urlava a squarciagola, attaccato alla rete, incitando i nostri ragazzi e soprattutto Lele Bruno, il suo adorato cuginetto che quel giorno, senza saperlo, ha cambiato la vita di Andrea che, per tutti da allora, è diventato “Andreino”.
Perché Andreino? forse perché tutti lo vedevamo piccolo, apparentemente indifeso, legato su quella sedia a rotelle, per evitare che i movimenti inconsulti della tetraparesi spastica lo facessero cadere. Ma le sue urla, le vene del collo gonfie, quelle dita serrate sulla rete lasciavano intravedere molto altro, una forza, uno spirito, una carica che ai miei occhi ed a quelli di coloro che gli stavano intorno, facevano quasi sparire quella carrozzina.
Oggi ripensando a quel giorno, mi viene in mente la canzone di De Gregori, la leva calcistica della classe ’68 ”Il ragazzo si farà….” e così è stato, oggi Andrea è maggiorenne, ha 19 anni, una intelligenza acuta, una grinta fuori dal normale, una voglia di vivere che stupisce; ancora De Gregori direbbe: “un giocatore lo vedi dal coraggio, dall’altruismo e dalla fantasia” e ad Andrea, non manca niente di tutto ciò!
Allenatore di calcio a 5, giocatore di basket, appassionato di tatuaggi e filosofia, sempre in giro circondato da tanti amici ed amiche che gli vogliono bene, anche perché è quasi impossibile non volergliene. Per conferme in materia chiedere a mister Spalletti, che nel 2007 rimase letteralmente stregato dal sorriso di Andrea, dalla sua spontaneità e soprattutto dalla sua carica. Lo soprannominò, “il principino”, perché al centro sportivo di Trigoria, tutti al suo passaggio, gli spalancavano le porte. Si, ancora una volta quel “ino”, una sorta di barriera, di scudo, di cui Andrea oggi non ha più bisogno.
La battaglia quotidiana che la vita gli ha riservato non è un ostacolo, è una palestra, come la scuola, dove si batte per poter fare un percorso di studi “normale”, che gli permetta di diplomarsi prima e frequentare l’università poi, perché Andrea sa qual è la strada che vuole percorrere e guarda lontano.
