For eleven years, I've taken groups of dogs on off-leash hikes in the conservation areas of eastern Massachusetts. This is our favorite summertime spot along the Sudbury River in Concord, Massachusetts. My greatest joy is capturing their play and how they relate to one another. Dogs are pack animals with a bond that we as humans can only try to understand. Their contact with the world is pure instinct. These water photos show the dogs' strength as they move through their environment. The dogs are also obscured: by each other, their reflections or the force of the water spray, a representation of our sometimes limited view of our canine companions. In the time of social media, where dogs (especially) are shown as "little furry humans," it's important to show that dogs have a life beyond the treat and dog bed.
If I had to categorize my work, I'd like to be the National Geographic of the dog world, bending towards the abstract. I want to capture the unscripted moments that reveal instinct and beauty without human interference.
