Death To The Beauitful

My technical lighting approach has been heavily influenced by the 16th and 17th century Flemish and Dutch still life painting and the Baroque art. Memento Mori is the main area of focus for me using these flowers as a symbolic reminder of the inevitability of death and the briefness of life. Each viewers interpretation of the work is different and will affect each one of them depend on their experiences in life. Whilst making the work, someone closed to me passed away and has ever since changed the meaning of the work to me, this is ever present to me in the image of the rose. A rose; a symbolic object for love, with my recent experiences I can see how fragile this bond of love is and how something so beautiful can wither away. The way I have composed the image to resemble a bouquet of flowers, which can be used to express love but can also be found to remember people who have past. The decaying flowers that are still grasping for life is something that can be found by the side of the road commemorate victim or at even by headstones of loved ones.
