The urban coastline of Portugal, between Lisbon to Cascais, was quite a shock to me when I moved there, especially coming from rural New Zealand. Yet, when the autumn swells arrived I was more than happy to be within walking distance of some beautiful surf spots (im a keen surfer). However, previous photographs of the area showed what a truly beautiful area it use to be, before the urban sprawl began to take over. The once beautiful homes have either been knocked down or are hiding behind poor 70’s architecture. An architect friend of mine commented that there should be a no building zone within in a 100 meters of the coastline, I couldn't agree more, especially with sea levels rising, but money always talks. This body of work catches the beautiful light and swells that grase this urban coastline.
