Doors are barriers. They’re very nature is to separate, to keep things apart, to hide what lies beyond them. They are full of potential because we don’t know what is behind them – they conceal a myriad of possibilities. They are used to protect what we deem precious, or to maintain secrets, or to prevent what is inside from escaping.
Doors are choices. One must act in order to cross the threshold, to make the other side visible and accessible. Sometimes, it’s as simple as turning a knob. Other times, we need keys to unlock them, or passwords, or membership. But we must choose to engage them.
Doors are opportunities. We’ll never know what’s within unless we take that action to open them and cross the entryway. We can close them to move away from what we choose to move past. Or we can ignore them altogether, never knowing what we may have missed.
