Junk Art
What criteria determine if something is an precious treasure or just simply waste? Is it age and history, the material or context and presentation, perhaps it´s just about the availability? A broken comb found in a garbage heap from the middle century ends up in a museum. Once garbage now a treasure. A second hand guitar bought for $25 at a pawn store by Jimi Hendrix who put burn marks on it later on sold for $276 000. Or van Gogh, seen as an unsuccesful madman in his life time and who only sold one single painting (the red vineyard), in those days a van Gogh painting can be sold for 7 million euro. Once junk now art.
In this series Junk Art I have been searching for wasted treasures. Rejected and forgotten thrown away on the ground in mud and dirt. I found beauty in form and texture of these objects and wanted to lift them up and give them life and glory they once had or never had. These treasures are photographed in a light and colour tone inspired by the 1500 century royal/religious paintings.
