These photos are from trees located in maritime red cedar forests that are globally rare and threatened by land development, deer and invasive species. Their persistence often results in fascinating remains attesting to the trees’ hardiness both while living and dead. The shapes of the branches, trunks and even roots vary greatly some skeletal, some sculptural and some figurative.
