Katsura Rikyu, located in the southwestern direction of Kyoto, on the west bank of Katsuragawa, was built about 400 years ago as a royal villa.
Three buildings and four tea rooms are arranged around a pond with an island in the center of the site. These buildings and trees and stone shapes placed in various places of the premises constitute a simple and beautiful space excluding decoration. In the middle of January, when I shot this place, the snow that continued from the previous day applied make-up to this space, I was able to feel a different beauty from everyday.
