Let’s escape from Istanbul’s turmoil and noise for a while and head to a location in the heart of the city, next to the bosphorus; but still a very well-preserved and perhaps even a bit of a tale.
From1935 onvards, Nefise and Selim Ergün have raised their five children and subsequently a dozen grandchildren, all of whom had unforgettable childhood memories in this modest old Istanbul home which is still standing after all those years.
I knew this place after joining to the family at the beginning of the 2000's and for me it was just the grandmother’s house to spend some time together with family at weekends or holidays. However over time I realised that when I was there, I could slow down, I could run away from the speed of the big city life. At the end of the day, I was leaving this place in a sense of calmness and serenity.
It is a small oasis in a big city, isn't it?
