The #EleNão (#NotHim) Movement was the largest female popular mobilization in Brazilian history. Hundreds of thousands of women protested in more than 160 Brazilian cities and other international capitals against the extreme right-wing presidential Jair Messias Bolsonaro. Bolsonaro gained prominence in the Brazilian political scene in recent years because of controversial misogynistic, racist, homophobic, fascist and anti-democratic statements that were publicly uttered and gradually absorbed and reproduced by a conservative portion of the Brazilian population. Because of this the Movement #EleNão also had a great adhesion of other 2 popular movements that suffer systematic violence in Brazil: the LGBT community and the Black Movement.
Using the hashtag "# EleNão", women organized protests through social media and occupied Brazilian cities such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Recife, Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Salvador, and capitals from other countries, such as New York , Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon and Paris. The #EleNão Movement was also the largest popular mobilization in Brazilian history against a specific candidate.
