More and more I am drawing on my collection of images that were shot on assignment but not for a particular story.
I did not know how to use these images at first, but they were always the ones I returned to and seemed to have the most atmosphere and layers of meaning. Images that are able to transport the viewer to a real or imagined world are what I strive for, and am attracted to. But this cannot be applied posthumously in the form of a filter or layer, it has to be present at the birth of the image.
This particular collection is entitled Runaway, and in a set of roughly 35 images details the story of a woman's attempt to escape, from what we do not know..... and was partly inspired by a commission to create a body of images to accompany a poem - 'The Island' during a street poetry workshop in Hackney, London for Photomonth.
These images are scans from photographic lith prints produced in my darkroom.
