In the 1940s, two artificial water reservoirs were established along the river Dunajec in southern Poland: Lake Roznowskie and Lake Czchowskie. Their lifespan was determined to be that of approximately 75 years. For decades they were a popular vacation spot for millions of Poles who in communist times were unable to travel abroad. Many state enterprises had their summer houses there. Sport and recreation bases were developed on the lakes as people opened restaurants, dance clubs etc. Gradual silting over the years has nevertheless led to the drying up and dying of the reservoir. The lifespan of both lakes seems to have come to an end.
