«Past-is past. Future –is future» – Khmer’s expression. Cambodia – is one the poorest countries in Southeast Asia. The reason of poverty is easy to understand, if we study the last half a century history of this Kingdom: French colonization independence struggle, American Forces’ carpet bombing, the Khmer Rouge’s genocide against its own nation, civil war and Vietnamese occupation. From above mentioned most of all we know about The Khmer Rouge’s terror. The Khmer Rouge’s regime, with Pol Pot as a leader, lasted less than four years, but hereby turned out to be one the most brutal regimes in the world. From a quarter to a third of seven million population was killed in the country. All this had happened most recently – from 1975 to 1979. It is not quite accepted to ask questions about The Khmer Rouge in Cambodia. It is regarded that every family has Pol Pot’s regime victims. Speaking to cheerful Cambodians is difficult to believe that this nation has gone through all terrors of genocide, – there is a feeling that the nation humbled and forgot about hard pastimes. Probably, the most typical will be the expression heard in one of the Khmer Rouge talks: « Past-is past. Future –is future. There is no need to rake over old ashes; there is a need to think about future».
