Suzhou - Rock and a Hard Place

Suzhou is a photographic documentary showing the day to day life for the majority of Chinese people. China is a country that is growing fast and has endured great changes during the past two decades, which is most evident within its large sprawling cities. Many people are constantly battling with their traditional way of living and the imported ‘fashionable’ western life style. Their traditional values are greatly challenged by such social, cultural and ideological changes in life. Globalization has had a huge impact on people’s life in China. However, although the country is wealthier, a huge proportion of the population is still living on the borderline of poverty.
