Krampus traditions are deeply rooted in the Southern German and Austrian culture. Every year before Christmas Krampus groups dress up and accompany Santa Claus. In contrary to Nikolaus, who gives presents to children, the Krampus creature will try to scare and punish naughty children. The tradition has been around since the 15th century and many groups perform the rituals every year in new costumes and masks.
