Motion: Thespian Landscape

This year, I have been experimenting with using the camera as a paintbrush by moving it in different ways during the capture of an image. The way in which the camera moves determines the forms and textures of the photograph. Movement creates three-dimensional forms from two-dimensional ones. It can make opaque forms transparent and transparent forms solid, as well as adding textural circles, chevrons, and lines to the composition. This process makes me a performance artist, a choreographer, a painter, and a creator in the photographic realm. I enliven landscapes with camera movement and create new reality while also recording the existing reality. The camera movement, in the low light environment where these images were photographed, has a flattening effect on the landscapes. To me, they feel like dramas set on a stage.
