This project started 2 years ago, as i was photoshooting a Jazz festival in downtown Athens. At some point during the concert, i turned my eyes off the stage and behind me there was a pack of young kids, swinging their feet off the floor like they were on fire. Many of them were already dealing with the consequences of the crisis. But as they were dancing that night, it looked as if they were transcending time and everything it carried with it. I spent the rest of the night, back turned on the stage, captured by what seemed to me like a spark from the soul. Dancing.
Since then, i've been photographing people dancing in various occasions and places. My interest is not in the dance per se. It's not in the technical stuff or in the perfect execution of its figures. My interest is in the burst of the soul, the dreaminess, the ritual, the mystery, the sexuality, the tenderness, the liberation, the joy. My interest is in the inner condition.
This is an ongoing project.
