Robert Siegelman takes intimate portraits of men whose vulnerability is intact, and often exposed. These are sexual pictures, even when not explicit. They are about relationships, both internal, and external. They are tender portraits about revealing and concealing. They depict how the models, the artist, and how people in general live in, and navigate, the everyday trauma of facing themselves and others, while looking at, and finding themselves as sexual beings. The men in these pictures are shown in ways that are not readily available in the media, or the history of how men are represented.
My work is a direct expression of my queer identity. I seek to look at, and create from the shifting grounds of its many complications and ever changing facets.
