I am an engineer by training but - like many I suspect - my heart lay elsewhere. After a lucky break, I found myself on a filmset one day twenty years ago, working as a stills photographer, and that was the catalyst for my changing careers. Photographing the same people every day for six weeks taught me to look beyond their smiles - and sometimes frowns - to see more of what made each person unique, and beautiful. It taught me a lot about empathy and the human spirit.
